DIFFERENT BETS
Back to Staking What sort of bet do you like doing on horse racing? Do you ever wonder how you can cover several selections in a different type of bet?
I want to show you some permutations with a difference, beginning with combination bets. Usually the types of bet associated with combinations are Jackpots, Placepots and the Scoop 6, but you are not restricted to these bets and there is another way to make combinations work for you.
If we first look at a similar bet, in application, to the above mentioned bets, we can then begin to understand how we can use the same format in other bets.
COMBINATION TREBLES ( 1 )
Eg. 1 -- 3 races, 3 selections in each race.
Bet 1 = 27 x (Unit stake Win)Trebles -27 bets
or Bet 2 = 27 x (Unit stake E W) Trebles -54bets
race 1. Rossini
Stravinski
Amethyst
race 2. Sendawar
Montjeu
Sakhee
race 3. Sagamix
Adair
Coliseum
If we cover these horses, as above, 3 sels., in 3 different races, to calculate the amount of bets you multiply the amount of selections in each race - i.e. 3 x 3 x 3 = 27 trebles. It is your choice, whether you back them - Win(27 bets), or back them Each Way(54 bets).
There is a big difference here though, in that only 1 horse can win each of the three races, therefore if you do back them as Win Trebles (27 bets), only 1 treble can succeed and you will have 26 losing bets. So, the odds of your winning selections would have to be 2/1 or higher to break even or make a profit.
However, if you backed them Each Way, you could have a successful Win Treble and if each of the other selections were placed, you would have 27 place Trebles. Again, the odds would have to be decent, as the place parts of the bets are usually at a 1/4 or a 1/5 of the odds.
Imagine though, that the results of the races were:- race 1 - only 2 selections placed, race 2 - you have the winner and the other two unplaced, race 3 - you have the winner and one other placed, your successful bets would now be :-
Win Trebles = 0
Place Trebles = 4 ( 2 x 1 x 2)
- and your returns could be very small and possibly not cover your outlay unless the prices were on average 9/1 or better.
Why then, should we try this type of bet, where we can only have one win treble?
Answer :- Modify the bet in order to give you a better chance of winning more money.
The way to do this, again using 9 selections (as above), is to pick 9 different selections from 9 different races, instead of three from each of the three races as shown.
COMBINATION TREBLES ( 2 )
Eg. 2 -- 9 races, 9 sels.( 1 from each race )
Bet 1 = 27 x (Unit stake Win)Trebles - 27 bets.
Perm any 1 from each Group of 3 (i.e.3x3x3)
or Bet 2 = 27 x (Unit stake E.W)Trebles - 54 bets.
Perm any 1 from each Group of 3 (i.e.3x3x3)
Grp. 1 race 1. Papillon
race 2. Merryman 11
race 3. Mr. What ........
Grp. 2 race 4. Oxo
race 5. Red Rum
race 6. Nicolaus Silver
Grp. 3 race 7. Jay Trump
race 8. Earth Summit
race 9. Red Alligator
Imagine these 9 horses running on the same day in different races. How do we perm them? We can do combination Win Trebles, only this time they can all win and you can be paid out all the 27 Win Trebles. You could even include a Win Treble on each Group at the same stake, making 30 bets. Just add the extra instruction with the original one. As long as the instruction is clear, then the bet will be settled properly.
If you were doing these as combination Each Way Trebles, you can have 27 Win Trebles and 27 Place Trebles, and if you add an extra E.W.Treble for each group you can have 30 correct win and place trebles.
You could also add an Each Way Accumulator on all nine selections with your instructions on either of these bets.
On the 27 or 30 Win Trebles bet, you only need 1 to be correct from each group (the 27 bets) or have a group correct (the 30 bets), at odds of 2/1, 2/1, and 5/2 or over to cover your outlay -but as you have the greater choice of races to pick from, you can 'easily' find winners at 3/1 or 4/1 or 5/1 and increase your returns. If you were to include one or two bigger priced selections, you can very easily cover your outlay with the place trebles.
This type of bet is only a suggestion on how to get more for your money but you still have to pick the right horses.
You could of course cover all 9 selections in trebles (84 bets), and that is not too bad with small unit stakes, but as the unit stakes get larger - so does the cost of the bet.
