Through many years of clinical practice I have become aware that many of my clients present one or more of the problems I will describe within this website.

Eating Disorders

  Anorexia Nervosa  This is a very high profile disorder at this time . It is characterised by deliberate weight loss , which is rigidly controlled by the sufferer . Most often affected are adolescent girls and young women but boys and young men are also affected .
A pathological fear of being fat or flabby , the judged of size and weight thresholds, decided upon by the anorexic themselves.
Metabolic changes due to lack of nutrition , ceasing of the menstrual cycle.
Routine diet ritualistic in nature , restriction of diet to specific food items , any variation producing anxiety and in some cases induced vomiting or excessive exercise.
Most anorexics become experts in all forms of diet and are usually very knowledgeable about nutrition, convincing themselves that they are in control of their eating habits.

  Bulimia Nervosa an eating disorder which typically produces bouts of over eating, bingeing and then vomiting or the use of laxatives to purge the system of excess food.
The preoccupation with body-weight and size make this a very similar disorder to Anorexia nervosa.
