Cawood is an "urban" village 10 miles south of York and 4 miles west of Selby, on the banks of the River Ouse in North Yorkshire, England.

As home of Cardinal Wolsey, it was called the "Windsor of the North" in the Middle Ages, and Dick Turpin reportedly forded the River here on his historic flight to York.
In the middle ages, Cawood was the home of the Archbishops of York, who lived in Cawood Castle until the English Civil War, after which much of the Castle was pulled down. We live next door to the Castle, in a house 270 years old, built with stones from the Castle in the cellar foundations. Our house was a charity school for girls until 1923, and between the world wars it was a bank - it is called
"Bank House".

For any ex-Windsor pupils -Windsor Society Reunion, Newbury (photos) - took place in June 2000
This is me, Pam, I'm a widow with four children. I grew up in Malaya, Africa, Gibraltar and Germany - I went to 10 schools - including Windsor Girls School, Hamm (Web site): windsorsociety.org.co.uk.

I went to University College London (to study German) before going to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, where I trained as a Stage Manager. I later retrained at York College www.yorkcollege.ac.uk before I got a job as Manager's PA at Gascoigne Wood Mine, the largest coal processing plant in Europe (and the world? - possibly!).

I was the Deputy Chairman of the Yorkshire Coal Taskforce, and my interests include Ancient Egypt, creative art and design, and my garden.
Other interests include my work within the Yorkshire Coal Staffs Branch of the GMB union - and Bob.
Number One son left home to pursue a reckless career of his own, but says "Hi" to his mates.
{Nick and friend} Number Two son has his own web site, somewhere. He enjoys exploring the countryside around Cawood. Number One daughter has just got engaged to Darren and is working in York. {Cat and Nick do their frogmen impression}
Number Two daughter is either trashing her room or watching TV - probably both - but she is brilliant and will be a wonderful actress one day. Not forgetting, the two pussy cats and Charlie.

Hi to all our friends - and to our relations in Bournemouth, Suffolk and Germany who drop in to our site!

Back to top or:- for more information about Selby - visit the Selbynet web site; - another local site is the Ferry Inn, Cawood, and Edward Croot has some amazing pictures of the 2000 floods. Whilst browsing the web, I also came across a site for Selby, the only talking dog in Australia - but you can look for that yourselves!
