Yorkshire Coal Staffs Branch is a branch of the Yorkshire/ North Derbyshire region of the GMB union; members work in or for the coal industry in Yorkshire. Many work for UK Coal Mining Ltd, which bought "English Coal" when British Coal was privatised in 1994. Members include clerical, Weekly Paid Industrial Staff (WPIS), industrial staff, security guards, workers at Monckton Coal and Coke Company, and workers for coal-related firms, eg the Coal Industry Social and Welfare Organisation (CISWO). {branch members at Brighton - Congress 1997} Subscription: £1.85 per week, or monthly by Direct Debit. The Branch is part of the Energy and Utilities Section of the GMB, along with branches representing workers in electricity (eg Drax and Ferrybridge Power stations), gas (British Gas, Centrica, etc), water, nuclear. {Commercial Services Section Conference, Glasgow 2000}

Ian at Blackpool - a motion from the branch was presented at congress urging the government to implement a long term energy policy to include coal, passed unanimously. (1999) More motions passed Congress 2001
