Chairman for our Winchester Branch

The future of the Winchester Multiple Sclerosis Branch, includes expanding on the successful physiotherapy service  provided,  and continuing to explore new initiatives that benefit their members. When the current chairman Bernie steps down next year, the team is going to need a new leader to take the branch forward into exciting times.

We would love to welcome a “Chair-in-waiting”, who will ultimately take over from Bernie in May 2010, but in the meantime, work alongside with him to learn the ropes and gain a great induction into the role.

You would:

You will also have a chance to attend forums and regional events, meeting other chairs and sharing best practice.

We are looking for someone who has the:

By volunteering with the MS Society, you will get the opportunity to meet new people, give something back to the community and develop existing or new skills; all whilst working with a national charity, at a local level - so you can really see the difference you are making.Training and induction will be given as well as ongoing support.

For more information on this role and an informal chat to discuss this opportunity further, please contact Rachel Derby, MS Volunteer Development Officer at the National Center on 0208 438 0876 or email Rachel Derby.

                                                                                        Cake Break

Look at all the lovely cakes on this table (many have already been eaten ! ) These photos were taken by Sue Collis at her cake break.    Sandra Buchanan also held a cake Break in Twyford Village Hall, and the Social Club held one at their meeting in April.  The money raised from these cake breaks was fantastic and very much appreciated by the branch -- Well Done to everyone who took part, went along to the events and sampled the goodies.   THANK YOU !

Physiotherapy Sessions

Why not come along to the Weekly  Physiotherapist group.
Sessons are weekly every Tuesday morning from 10.00 - 11.00 am.

The sessions are taken by qualified Neurological Physiotherapists and last
for an hour.   Each session is a mixture of gentle stretching and moving exercises.
It is for anyone who has Multiple Sclerosis whether they are walking or in a wheelchair.
The sessions are paid for by the Winchester & District Multiple Sclerosis Branch.
It is very friendly group and everyone enjoys the light hearted social side of the sessions.

It is held at
Hobbs Rehabilitation Centre , Bridget Lane,

Martyr Worthy, Near Winchester.
Why not visit their website to find out more about the Centre at

http://www.hobbsrehabilitation.co.uk/

This group is being financed by the Branch,

so all members are very welcome to come along.

Winchester Physio Group Transport

Up till now the Winchester branch has been willing to pay the transport costs for members who attend the physio group.  This funding came from the Lottery Fund Award.

The money from the award has now been spent, so at the committee meeting on 7th October 2009 it was decided that the branch can no longer fund this travel cost, particularly as the branch is now paying for weekly physio sessions at the centre.

The funding for travel costs will end at the end of this month, October, which is the end of branch financial year.  Members who have been claiming travel costs will need to get their last claims into Hilary Lawrence by the end of the month please.

This does not effect the people who use the services of Dial-a-Ride.  Members who wish to use this service should continue to book up to use the service themselves.

Anne Cartwright - Shining Star Award

Winchester and District branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society has been most fortunate to have had
Anne Cartwright working tirelessly in many roles for many years.
She has been a determined fundraiser and a deputy Chair holding the reins when
a chairman was not to be found.
But her most valuable contribution has been as our support / welfare officer.
Her caring, warm and professional approach to a multitude of problems will always be appreciated by those she has helped.

Anne has always put others first and she unreservedly deserves a Shining Star
in recognition of her work to help people affected by MS.
This accompanied the award giving and read out by the Mayor.
