**** Shining Star Award **** The MS Society's highest accolade for 'outstanding volunteers', the Shining Star Award, was recently awarded to one of our valued volunteers on her retirement Anne Cartwright by The Right Worshipful the Mayor of Winchester, Councillor Chris Pines. This was a 3 jewel studded star (lapel badge) and a framed certificate from our National Centre personally signed by the Chief Executive Simon Gillespie. This gave us the opportunity to celebrate the end of the National MS Awareness week 21st to 27th April 08. This was at our monthly social club meetings and AGM on Monday 28th April 08 at Badgers Farm Community Centre. Following a talk by one of our members (Pat Neal) as a guest speaker (on the topic of art), followed by the AGM business. We do not do very well with attendance usually about 15 - 20 members, but we will endeavour to get some press coverage and Chris would help us with promoting our cause locally. Our volunteer has been a hard lady to trap enabling us to present this ‘highest accolade’ available from the National Multiples Sclerosis Society of Great Britain. This is her citation << ***Anne Cartwright – Shining Star Award *** Winchester and District branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society has been most fortunate to have hadAnne Cartwright working tirelessly in many roles for many years. She has been a determined fundraiser and a deputy Chair holding the reins when a chairman was not to be found. But her most valuable contribution has been as our support / welfare officer. Her caring, warm and professional approach to a multitude of problems will always be appreciated by those she has helped. Anne has always put others first and she unreservedly deserves a ‘Shining Star’ in recognition of her work to help people affected by MS. This accompanied the award giving and read out by the Mayor…….The pictures are of the Mayor presenting the award to Anne Cartwright. |
