The Monk Family History

Welcome to my family history website.  I have so far traced my Monk family back to 1662, the family originating from Surrey, parts of the family having lived at Bletchingley and Horley in Surrey and also over the border inWorth, Sussex.
From about 1822 my family line moved to Halling and Snodland, in Kent. Other members of the Monk family remained in Surrey.
My earliest known ancestors  are George Monk and Katherine Wickham, whom were married at Gatton, Reigate, Surrey on 26.6.1662.
Their son William Monk was born in Bletchingly in 1673, he married  'Goody' and their son William born in  1700 at Horley, Surrey; is my next ancestor. William and his wife Sarah's son Thomas  is my next ancestor.
Thomas was born in Horley in 1748, he died at Worth in 1831 and was buried at Worth Church on 24.8.1831. Thomas and his wife Susan's son Matthew Monk was born in 1790 at Worth in Sussex. Matthew married Sarah Beard and they had fourteen children. Most of their children were born at Halling, in Kent. Matthew  was a chalkpit labourer at the Lime works at Halling.  Matthew died at Lower Halling on 13.3.1866 and was buried at Halling Church on 18.3.1866. His wife Sarah was from Lingfield,in Surrey, born  in 1795. She died at Lower Halling,  on 3.5.1866, she was also buried at Halling Church on 8.5.1866.
Their son William Monk born in 1822, is  my next ancestor.  His first wife was Caroline Feist, and they had one son Albert Monk born on 15.9.1847 at Snodland, in Kent. Caroline died aged only 17 from typhus fever, on 25.2.1849,  she is also buried at Halling Church. William remarried Mahalah Sarah Straggins and they had four children; Thomas, Caroline, Matthew and John William.  Sadly, Caroline and Matthew died before reaching adulthood. Thomas' daughter Alice Louisa Monk married William Golding and  emigrated to Canada.

Albert Monk married Louisa Summers on 16.7.1860 at All Saints Church, Snodland, they had eleven children; whose names all began with the letter 'A':- Albert, Arthur, Ada, Alice, Annie, Agnes, Alfred, Allan, Adelaide, Abel and Annie. Albert was a cement miller at the local cement works at Snodland. Their son Arthur Monk born in 1870, was my great grandfather, he married Sarah Jane Goodhew on 2.6.1900, and they had nine children.
