A 5xgreat grandmother of mine was Elizabeth Adney, who married Thomas Norgrove at Ludford, Shropshire, in 1774. They had eleven children: Ann (1775), Elizabeth (1777), Alice (1779), Meriah (1781), Richard Tyston (1783), Sarah (1785), Thomas (1787), George (1789), John (1789), Theodosia (1790) and (probably) Hariat (1793). George and John were presumably twins. Thomas was a farmer. Elizabeth died in 1801, almost two years after her husband, aged 51.
I have not been able to trace Elizabeth's ancestry with any certainty. Adney was a reasonably common name in Shropshire at this time. There are as many as nine possible baptisms in the IGI, of which three are considered more likely, and require further investigation. If her recorded age at death is accurate, this can be reduced to one possible baptism, in 1748 at High Ercall (but this is quite a long way from Ludford). None of the nine baptisms were in Ludford, or indeed neighbouring parishes, and there are none in the IGI for Herefordshire (Ludford is very close to the county boundary).
