My interest in the Chatham family stems from two sisters, Charlotte and Lucy Chatham, who were daughters of William Chatham and Ann (née Bishop), and who married two brothers, Elias and Isaac Froggatt. Neither are direct ancestors of mine, but I am descended from a third brother, Thomas Froggatt.
Charlotte was born in 1804 at Loughton, Shropshire. She married Elias Froggatt in 1823 at Chetton, Shropshire, and bore him 9 children between 1824 and 1837. She died in 1838 and was buried at Bitterley, Shropshire.
Lucy was born in Chetton, Shropshire, in 1810. She married Isaac Froggatt c. 1834 and bore him 13 children between 1835 and 1856. Several of the children emigrated to Invercargill, New Zealand. Lucy and Isaac lived for most, possibly all, of their married life at Featherknowl farm, Ashford Bowdler, Shropshire. She converted to Methodism in 1842, and attended the chapel at the village of Wyson, near Ludlow. Lucy died in 1885, just a few days after her husband, and was buried at Ashford Bowdler.
