COCK/COCKS/COX RESEARCH INTERESTS

A 4xgreat grandmother of mine was Anne Cock, who married Thomas Robinson in 1779 at Church Stretton, Shropshire. They had five children: Esther, John, Anne, Thomas and Thomas. Anne died in 1830, aged 76, and is buried at Church Stretton. I believe that Anne was baptised Ann Cox in the neighbouring parish of Eaton-under-Heywood in 1753, the daughter of Thomas Cox and Etheldra (née Bowdler) who were married at Rushbury in 1736.

In addition to Anne, Thomas and Etheldra had two other children baptised in Eaton-under-Heywood, Thomas (surname written 'Cocks') in 1747, and Elizabeth Cock in 1751. The gap from the marriage in 1736 to the first child's baptism in 1747 suggests strongly that they had other children baptised elsewhere.

Thomas Cock himself, was the son of Francis and Margaret Cock, baptised in Eaton-under-Heywood in 1709. He had five younger siblings, all baptised in Eaton-under-Heywood, Francis (1712), Charles (1714), Elizabeth (1717), Mary (1720/1) and William (1724/5). A William Cox was a Churchwarden at Eaton in 1761.

Francis Cock (grandfather to Anne) married Margaret Rathbone in 1708 at Eaton-under-Heywood. He may have been the son of Francis and Susannah Cocks who was baptised in Eaton-under-Heywood in 1689/90, though this would have made him probably only 18 at the time of his marriage (assuming he was baptised as a baby). Francis and Susannah Cocks (or Cox) had four other children baptised in Eaton-under-Heywood, Jane (1683/4), Suzannah (1686), John (1687/8) and William (1691/2).
