My direct ancestral Froggatt line is as follows:
William Froggatt. Probably born around 1575. Married Anne. Had 7 sons, but no known daughters: Aden, George, Ellis, Richard, William, John, Sampson, born 1598-1616. Sold land in 1626 and 1630. Died 1637 at Lichfield, Staffs. Wife Anne died in 1655 at Mayfield. Click here for details of other Froggatts in Mayfield at this time.
Ellis Froggatt, Gentleman. Born 1603, Mayfield, Staffs. Married Alice. Children: Margery, Edward, Thomas, Mary, Katherine, born 1628-38 at Lichfield, Staffs. Died 1664, buried at Lichfield; I have a transcript of his Will, and also that of his wife. His wife, Alice, died in 1693, buried at Lichfield.
Edward Froggatt. Baptised 1630 at Lichfield St. Mary, Staffs. Married Mary. Children: Ellis, Sarah, Ellis, Edward, Alice, Joyce, born 1654-66. Died 1668, buried at Lichfield St. Michael.
Edward Froggatt, Yeoman. Baptised 1661 at Lichfield St. Michael, Staffs. Married (1) Catherine Reynolds, 1686, Tatenhill, Staffs, and (2) Rebecca Hackett, 1714, Alrewas, Staffs. Children: by Catherine - Elias, Edward, Christian; by Rebecca - Rebecca, Edward, William. Died 1724/5 at Alrewas, Staffs. I have a transcript of his Will. Catherine died in 1712 at Alrewas; Rebecca died in 1722 at Alrewas.
Elias Froggatt. Baptised 1687 at Alrewas, Staffs. Married Elizabeth Browne, 1733, at Alrewas. Children: Elizabeth, Catherine, Anne, Alice, Elias, Edward. Died 1756 at Alrewas. I have a transcription of his Will.
Elias Froggatt, Farmer. Baptised 1745. Married Mary Wright, 1765, at Lichfield St. Chad. Children: John, Elias, Thomas, Margaret. It would appear he moved to Yarpole, Herefordshire, probably in or shortly before 1772, and then to Stoke St. Milborough, Shropshire in or shortly before 1775. At his death in 1824, he lived in Bitterley. I have a transcription of his Will. His wife Mary probably died in 1813, buried at Bitterley. I am descended from both sons, Elias (I) and Thomas (II). The other son, John married Mary Froggatt, 1795, at Birmingham - presumed to be a relative, but relationship not yet established.
(I)Elias Froggatt, Farmer. Baptised 1772, Yarpole, Herefordshire. Married (1) Ann Lycett, 1794, Stoke St. Milborough, Salop, and (2) Elizabeth Davies (widow), 1848, Bitterley, Salop. Children (all by Ann): Anne, Anne, Thomas (I), Elias, Mary, Charles, Isaac, James, Kate, Jacob, Henry. Died 1857, then living at Stanton Lacy, buried at Bitterley.
(II)Thomas Froggatt, Farmer. Baptised 1775, Stoke St. Milborough, Salop. Married (1) Elizabeth Norgrove, 1800, Bitterley, Salop., and (2) her sister, Theodosia Norgrove, between 1811 and 1813. Children: by Elizabeth - Thomas, Elias, Thomas, Elizabeth, Sarah, Mary Anne; by Theodosia - Harriet, Emma, Amelia, John, Eliza, Catherine, Henry, Charlotte, Helen (II). Died 1840, buried at Bitterley.
(I)Thomas Froggatt, Farmer. Born 1787 at Stanton Lacy, Salop. Married Ann Millichamp, 1823, at Stoke St. Milborough. Children: Charles, Thomas (Ia), Elias Richard (Ib), Henry Francis, James, Edwin, Anne, Clara Georgina. Died 1868, buried Little Hereford, Herefordshire. I am descended from both sons, Thomas (Ia) and Elias Richard (Ib).
(Ia)Thomas Froggatt, Farmer. Baptised, 1825, Ashford Bowdler, Salop. Married (1) either Susan or Emily Bray, and (2) Helen Bray, the sister of his first wife, in 1866, at Gloucester, St. Michaels. They presumably married in Gloucester despite both living near Hereford at the time because it was then not lawful to marry one's deceased spouse's sibling. No children from first marriage; children by Helen: Edwin Thomas, Helena Lily, Thomas Henry Bray and Mabel Deborah Elizabeth. Died 1891, buried at Little Hereford.
(Ib & II)Elias Richard Froggatt, Farmer. Baptised, 1827, Ashford Bowdler, Salop. Married Helen Froggatt (his second cousin), 1865, in Tenbury registration district. Helen was baptised, 1833, at Bitterley. Children: Theodosia Clara, Annie Helen Emily, son (name unknown). Elias Richard died 1901.
(Ia & Ib)Thomas Henry Bray Froggatt, Farmer. Born 1871, Little Dewchurch, Herefordshire. Married his cousin, Annie Helen Emily Froggatt, who was born in 1874 at Little Hereford. Children: Harry Melville, Edwin Thomas Bray, Elias Richard, Freda Helen Eileen. Thomas died 1947 at Overton Grange, near Ludlow, Salop. Annie died 1972 at Aynall Villa, Little Hereford, aged 98.
Harry Melville Froggatt, Farmer. Born 1896, Little Hereford. Married Ethel George, 1924. Children: Trevor, Elizabeth (Betty) (my mother), David and Margaret. Died 1986, East Grinstead, Sussex.
