A 7xgreat grandmother of mine was probably Margaret Knott, who married Nathaniel Norgrove at Ludlow, Shropshire, in 1771/2. The register indicates that Nathaniel (spelt Nathaniell) and Margaret were both of the parish of Bitterley (it was fashionable to marry in Ludlow). Margaret was probably the daughter of Edward Knott (or Nott) and Anna, baptised on January 20th, 1689, at Bitterley. Edward Nott married Anna Watts on September 29th, 1686, at Culmington. They also had a son, Edward, baptised in 1700 in Bitterley. Edward (who married Anna Watts) is likely to have been the son of Edward Nott and Jane, baptised on April 3rd, 1661, at Bitterley. There are a number of other Watts/Wattes entries in the IGI for Culmington during the 17th century, but no Ann(e) baptism. The only possible Ann(e) baptism in the Shropshire IGI is of Ann Waties, daughter of John Waties and Mary, baptised on November 20th, 1664, at Bucknell, which is about 10 miles from Culmington.
