My interest in the Matt(e)y family stems from my 3xgreat grandmother, Elizabeth Mattey, who married Thomas Bray on November 25th, 1823, at Hampton Bishop, Herefordshire. Elizabeth was baptised on February 9th, 1800, at Hampton Bishop, the daughter of James Matty and Susanna(h) Watkins, who were married on November 25th, 1794, also at Hampton Bishop. James Matty was baptised either on August 5th, 1771 (the son of James Mattey and Anne née Rideout, who were married at Brockhampton near Ross on June 21st, 1770), or on November 1st, 1772 (the son of John Mattey and Mary), at Fownhope with Fawleye, Herefordshire.
