MORTON RESEARCH INTERESTS

My Morton ancestral line is as follows:

Thomas Moreton of Moreton, co. Stafford. He had two children, Robert and Matthew.

Robert Morton. Alive 1500. Had a son, Richard.

Richard Morton, of Houghton (near Shifnal), co. Salop. He married Cecilia Charlton, daughter of William Charlton of Apley Castle. According to the 1623 Visitation, he also married Jane Corbett, daughter of Sir Robert Corbett, but I believe this to be wrong, and to refer to the mother of Richard's daughter-in-law, Jocosa. Richard and Cecilia had eight children, Robert, Elizabeth, Margaret, Richard, and four others.

Jane Morton, my 9xgreat grandmother, married Thomas Corbett c. 1585. They had 15 children, mostly baptised at Leebotwood, Stapleton and Longnor between 1586 and 1610: William, Elizabeth, Edward, Robert, Sarah, Richard, Thomas, Philip, Richard, George, Anne, Roger, Humphrey, Eleanor and Ursula. Jane died on December 1st, 1652, and was described then as "Jane Corbett of Longnor"; she was buried at Leebotwood.
