RATHBONE RESEARCH INTERESTS

A 6xgreat grandmother of mine was Margaret Rathbone, who married Francis Cock in 1708 at Eaton-under-Heywood, Shropshire. They had six children, all baptised in Eaton-under-Heywood, Thomas (1709), Francis (1712), Charles (1714), Elizabeth (1717), Mary (1720/1) and William (1724/5).

Rathbone is a fairly uncommon surname, there being only seven Margaret Rathbones in the whole of the Shropshire IGI. It is likely that Margaret was the daughter of Carol and Elizabeth Rathbone, baptised in Much Wenlock on February 8th, 1685. The IGI shows no siblings, and the only other Rathbone entry for Much Wenlock is the marriage of a Rathbone (no first name) to an Elizabeth (no surname) in April 1686.
