My interest in this family stems from Mary Wire who married John George in 1803 at Ludford, Shropshire. She was probably my 3xgreat grandmother as I believe this John and Mary George were the parents of my great great grandfather, Moses George (1827-1902). The register indicates both George and Mary were residents of the parish of Ludford. The marriage was witnessed by Benjamin Breakwell and Mary George. This is the only marriage of John George to a Mary in the IGI (or otherwise found) at the right time to fit in with the baptism of the eldest sibling of Moses George (1805) and there were no children of John and Mary George baptised in Ludford (checked from 1802 to 1808).
Census returns indicate that Mary was born in Hopton Wafers. However she was probably the Mary Wyer baptised on June 18th, 1786, at Stottesdon and Farlow, the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Wyer (pauper), there being no other possible baptisms in the Salop IGI. She died on July 31st, 1871, aged 85, and was buried at Coreley on August 4th, 1871, aged 85 years. She had an older sister, Elizabeth, also illegitimate, baptised on July 9th, 1780, also at Stottesdon and Farlow. Mary's mother, Elizabeth, was probably also illegitimate, being one of two bastard daughters (the other, Mary) of Mary Wyer baptised on January 1st, 1760, at Bitterley; there are no other siblings in the IGI, and no other Wyer/Wyre baptisms in Bitterley in the IGI. There are two other possible Elizabeth baptisms in Stottesdon and Farlow in 1739 and 1745, but these are considered rather less likely as they would mean Elizabeth having an illegitimate child at age 47 or 41, as opposed to 26. The latter Mary was probably the Mary Wyer who married James Morgan in Bitterley on December 7th, 1761. It is likely that Mary was also illegitimate, being the Mary, illegitimate daughter of Mary Wyer and R. (probably, Richard) Palmer, baptised in Bitterley on April 21st, 1734 (omitted from IGI). There are four possibilities for the baptism of this mother Mary, between 1701 and 1715, in Stoke St. Milborough, Stottesdon and Farlow, and Burford.
