It is a familiar story among the People, but no less true for those concerned. Danny never felt comfortable when he was growing up in the city of Midway. He was constantly irritated by the seemingly trivial concerns of his companions. He was never sure how to react in social situations and he was convinced that his family felt awkward when he was around. Even the city seemed against him - traffic thundered too loudly and buildings loomed too large and dirty.
He would chose to spend much of his time alone. He would walk through parks or sit in libraries; watching people, reading extensively and contemplating the mysteries of life. But thoughtful solitude itself was no comfort. When alone, he longed for company. When he viewed the world, he knew that something was lacking from his life. No amount of study, meditation or research could provide the answers he sought. Indeed sometimes he didn't even know what questions were being asked. His frustration continued to grow into the first simmerings of Rage.
Even before the deaths of his parents, there were only two people who could help him relax and feel at ease. Natasha Macavoy had been a friend since childhood. Her more vocal rants against society gave Danny reassurance that he wasn't alone in his sense of isolation. Adulthood added an occasional sexual encounter to their relationship, but Danny first knew love when he met Nicola Pierce. Her talk of spiritual matters seemed to fill a missing piece of his jigsaw and he felt drawn to her by an attraction that surpassed physical beauty or compatible personalities.
Both Natasha and Nicola would remain important figures in the rest of his life. Indeed they would play significant parts in the events that finally let Danny understand his true identity. It was the turmoil of Natasha’s First Change that first hinted at the hidden secrets of this World of Darkness and, only months later, Nicola’s research that proved the existence of a spiritual world. Like most, his own First Change ended with the shed blood of an innocent, but, for Danny, a more painful sacrifice was being forced to turn his back on Nicola while he learned to temper the rage of his werewolf soul under the tutelage of Max Roman’s Silver Syndicate. In time, he would be reunited with both Nicola and Natasha, although neither reunion would be without pain.
Danny takes his roles as Elodoth and Storm Lord very seriously. A patient thinker to begin with, he now has the Half Moon’s insights to weigh before acting. He sees himself as the natural alpha of his new pack - not out of a Storm Lord’s quest for power, but because he truly believes that as an Elodoth he has the perspective necessary to understand and unite his pack mates. His continual quest for Honour and Harmony can sometimes be a strain - especially with the further burden of Winter Wolf’s vow - but thus far the love and support of Nicola has given him the strength and peace to face each new challenge. Were he ever to break, the entire pack might follow.
