Gospel and Psyche This comes from the Franciscan paper dated May 1994, and it has had a profound effect on me and my ministry. Gospel and Psyche, by Eric Hutchinson, about St Paul: "fallen psyche":- Some may ask: what is the point of being conscious of how the psyche works if whatever we do, we continue to sin? Perhaps we can put the question this way: is it not perhaps more human, more responsible, to be more and more conscious, more and more adult in our deepening awareness of the subtlety and power of sin in ourselves, and therefore less judgmental, and perhaps less manipulative, less angry, more and more accepting (which is not the same as colluding commending or indulging) in our reactions to others, always knowing with more than a touch of genuine humour and humanity just how much further we have to go? This awareness does not separate us from, nor make us superior to, anyone, but binds us ever more deeply to every single member of the whole human race.
