Date of birth and death based on Obituary Notice for George Hall Schofield. 1843 Was running the Hopwood MIlls, Oldham. Her son Thomas and George H. Schofield joined her in partnership. Hopwood Mill Side of Moor (now Lees Road), Oldham. Spindleage: 1889 44,500 Original mill built in 1853 by Mary Broadbent & Son and a larger mill erected alongside in 1861. Extended 1926, but closed down in 1932. The majority of the premises demolished around the turn of the century. Ceased production in the 1930's, remaining vacant until 1941 when occupied by Red Rose Products, for the manufacture of cotton bags and extended that year. Roof and top floor ravaged by fire in 1965, premises now used for storage and sale of wallpaper. Wellington Mill, Chew Valley Road, Greenfield. Later re-occupied as woollen mill and at present, (1895), operated by Knoll Spinning Co. |
