Glass Transportation - A Safe Operation |
||
![]() |
The tightening of Health and Safety regulations from the Department of Transport for the transportation of glass must be taken into careful consideration when specifying and operating all glass and window carrying vehicles. Living up to their slogan of “The Safe Way to Carry Glass” Supertrucks Ltd has been working closely with GGF and the Department of Transport regarding the safe transportation of glass, and supplies safety guidance manuals with each Body and Rack Conversion produced. Back in 1984 Supertrucks invented their then new light alloy and rubber sections. These were designed as a riveted and bolted assembly, light in weight yet with strength and durability. The Supertrucks design complied with European regulations (the rack was awarded the German TUV certificate in 1988 and the GS certificate in 1997). It was patented together with the Multistrap window securing system. It was shown to the glass trade at the 1986 Glassex exhibition and quickly gained its position as the safest glass rack available. 19 years and 10,000 racks later many improvements have been made and the basic design has been refined and improved including reducing the weight, adding the system 2 securing pole and improving the wind flow characteristics. Front and rear safety markers, glass pack stops, optional safety curtains for external racks, and from the end of this year inclinometers will be fitted to every vehicle. This is a visual device immediately showing the driver if the vehicle is parked on level ground and is safe to load or unload. Other additional safety features now included as standard Supertrucks specification are, reflecting side markers built into the base of the rack, and a test certificate issued with every rack. Meeting (and exceeding) all the relevant legislation. Supertrucks export to Europe, and recently celebrated the 1000th rack supplied to Germany. The product meets the testing requirements of the German TUV/GS. This ensures that customers can have the maximum confidence in the design and construction of all Supertrucks bodies, racks and securing systems, right down to the working practices. Supertrucks are based in St. Helens and have 8 appointed partners around the UK offering Supertrucks racks installation and repair service. |
