My style of painting skeletons is based upon the Studio's army.
Stages:
1. Undercoat white.
2. Paint the entire model bleached bone, except fot the weapons/armour.
3. Paint black lines between all the bones. You may want to paint the entire rib area black but I use a fine detail brush to paint between each rib individually.
4. Water down some skull white and paint it over the bleached bone areas, taking care not to get it on the black.
5. Paint the weapons and armour black.
6. Use boltgun metal to cover the metal areas of the skeleton.
7. If you are using the new skeleton regiment, remove the shields from their sprue and choose a boss for the centre of the shields.Remove these as well. For the older skeleton box sets, leave the shields on the sprue.
8. Undercoat the shields and bosses white.
9. Remove the older shields from their sprue. Paint the wooden side of the shields (both types) with a suitably dark brown colour.
10. While they dry, begin to paint the bosses in the same way as the skeletons.
11. Paint the front of the shields black.
12. Paint the edges of the shields with boltgun metal. Do one side at a time or the paint will rub off.
13. Stick the bosses onto the shields, and the shields onto the skeletons. The older shields should have transfers applied to them first. Make sure that the entire regiment has the same transfer, to create a united look.
14. Sit back and admire. As long as it worked that is.
