Highfield 1867-1870
Wednesday's first home was a field opposite Mount Pleasant probably on the site of the present Highfield library.
At the time the Mount Pleasant grounds were known as the Orphanage, after having recently changed their name from Cremorne (after the famous Chelsea gardens) . Blondini, the high wire artist was reported to have performed in the gardens. They also provided the home ground for Mackenzie F.C. during the 1867 Youdan Cup.
Wednesday played at Highfield until 1870 when they found a new field just across the valley at Heeley Bank.
