Cups and medals presented by Alf Kirk of |
1888-1889 :-
Wednesday
withdrew from Sheffield F.A. competitions at the start of the 89/90 season.
After failing togain a place in the League's first season, they had turned down
the opportunity to play in the ill-fated Combination League.
This left them rather at a loss, with little real competative football to keep
the players and fans interested, and so they entered the Gainsborough News
Charity Cup.
There wasn't really much competition for the Wednesday Club, as Doncaster Rovers, Gainsborough Trinity, Grimsby Humber and Burton Swifts all suffered heavy defeats. The last being 4 - 1 in the final at Olive Grove.

1895-1896 :- Wednesday played in the Birmingham Cup for the only time. They
lost to Aston Villa after a controversial penalty in extra time.
After the normal time the score was 3-3. In extra time Villa got a penalty,
which they proceeded to miss. Much to the consternation of the crowd and local
press the referee ordered the penalty retaken, and Wednesday were out of the cup
- and the chance to see a Wednesday v. United Birmingham Cup Final was lost
(United made it through to the final but lost to Walsall.)
