Owlerton
1899-1913

But as it was they had to move, and move quickly. Several sites were studied - The first was even close to Bramall Lane - the Sheaf House Grounds (which would have made Wednesday and United the closest neighbours of all) but that fell through. The next two most suitable land was at Carbrook and Owlerton. The Carbrook ground was up beyond Attercliffe, near to where the Don Valley Stadium stands today - or more accurately where the Meadowhall Retail Park is. The Owlerton land was out on the fringes of the town.

A ballot of supporters at the infamous 79 minute Villa game came down narrowly in favour of Carbrook, but the Wednesday board decided upon Owlerton, and Owlerton it was.

The main stand at Olive Grove was transported across the city and the ground opened on September 2nd 1899 with a match against Chesterfield.
