Wolverhampton Ladies FC were formed in 1975, originally bearing the name Heathfield Rovers, and commenced the 1975-76 season in the Second Division of the West Midlands League.

1976 saw the name change to Wolverhampton & Wednesbury Tube LFC, which subsequently became Wolverhampton Ladies.

At the start of the 1993-94 season the team approached their famous locals asking for permission to use the name Wolverhampton Wanderers Women's FC. This was granted and the name change took place.
