Another view of the main road with the model village in the background. The white building with adjacent yard in the middle foreground was Biggs Bros., the village bakers. Bread and cakes were baked in a traditional coal fired oven used until the bakery closed in 1991. Each day different delights were baked such as : sausage rolls, bakewell tarts, doughnuts, jam tarts, almond tarts, sponge cakes, fruit cakes and best of all on Saturdays cream slices. The closure was a sad day in the life of the village and surrounding areas. The family bakery business was established on the site in 1803.
