| Here you see the Junction of Barrack Lane and the main Road, the pub
on the corner is the "Beehive" built in the 1960s to the rear of the site of the old
Beehive and the village saddlers. These attractive old buildings made a pinch point
for the traffic and when they were demolished it allowed the road to be widened and better "sight lines" achieved.
Villagers today would probably appreciate the ancient buildings formerly on this corner
for providing "traffic calming". On the right behind the "Beehive" is the
Village Store and Post Office known in the village as the "Mace" although
in reality it is "Walthambury Stores". The trees on the far right are along
the banks of Walthambury Brook. The course of which is followed from here
to the neighbouring village of Pleshey by the Essex way long distance footpath.
The picture below shows the corner and the "Beehive" as it was in the 1900s.
