Hawkenbury Meadow is a long strip of neutral grassland
that runs alongside a brook next to Katherine's Way.
The site also has margins of mature woodland on both sides and
a central patch of willow trees.
The meadow has many interesting wild flowers such as yellow rattle,
common spotted orchid, cowslip, wild carrot, and grass vechling.
The northern part of the meadow has damper soil and attracts more marshland plants.
It is a good place to spot butterflies,
and the brown argus butterfly has colonised the meadow only fairly recently.
Although fairly small, the site is peaceful change from the busy road outside.
A new information board has been installed at the entrance to provide more information.
