Ambition

'Ambition' is that odious desire
To ruthlessly and selfishly acquire
Objectives you have chosen for yourself
That serve to build your status and your wealth.

It is a well-known businessman's expression
For single-minded greed and self-obsession:
"Ambitious personnel required" you read-
"Self-centred arrogance" is what they need.

Such people hold this vain, misguided notion
That life entails continual self-promotion,
Success, to them, is all we really need
(This theory helps to justify their greed)

The real truth is all too plain to see:
Ambition cannot live with Charity.
Although they sometimes seem to compromise,
Where Charity is queen, Ambition dies.

Yet still ambitious people set the rules:
The call the others indecisive fools
Because they don't possess the thrust and drive
On which these egotists so clearly thrive.
