Follow Me

To tell a lie is something that we all can see is wrong,
The biggest liar in the world has known it all along.
And yet each person really knows (despite his deep desire
To live a simple, honest life) he is a dreadful liar.

He cannot keep the morals that he knows he ought to keep
He'd like to follow Goodness, but he follows other sheep.
So even what he wants to be is far beyond his reach:
A man who talks of sailing but has never left the beach.

No man will disagree with this - the evidence is clear;
We have inbuilt in us a course we have no strength to steer.
Yet most deny that inner call - so never sail that sea
And yet the Man who calmed the waves still whispers "Follow Me".
