Self-induced Ignorance

Anyone who lives a life
Can see the cause of human strife;
Can see Man's greed and love of wealth
-But rarely sees it in himself.

How skilfully he justifies
His selfish thoughts, his frequent lies!
His self-deception works so well
He can't believe he's going to Hell.

But while he will not see his sin
The blinded man cannot begin
To recognise he is depraved -
Nor see the need of being saved.

Yet oh, what foolishness is this!
To pass up on eternal bliss
Because he will not look inside
And see his selfishness and pride.

For if he did, he'd be consumed
With guilt - and realise he's doomed;
And doomed men never hesitate
In seeking to escape their fate.

God promised if we seek we'll find.
So if we'd just admit we're blind,
We'll seek until we find our guide:-
The Man that Mankind crucified.
