The Ultimate Price

Before my gaze two dancing pools of light
Dash madly on, down lanes as black as night-
The trees and bushes flicker darkly by,
The weaving road unwinds before my eye.

For years I've strived for such a time as this.
The price was very high - but this is bliss!
What joy - despite the sacrifices made -
To own this new Ferrari - custom made!

And like a ululating winter gale
The V12's clamourous, yet plaintive wail
Invades my ears and captivates my heart:
What symphony in sound! What work of art!

And now we're braking hard, a bend draws near
The chevrons shout their warnings as I steer
The tyres screech, and then the bend has gone
With unabating pace we canter on.

And now a humpback bridge - My gallant steed
Takes off in classic style and breakneck speed
We're in the air - but now I realise
The road below us - to my great surprise -

Has turned sharp left....I cringe and hold my breath.
Foreboding trees, intent upon my death
Approach at speed....a sudden, tearing crash,
.....Then darkness, as my forehead thumps the dash.
