This is a picture of a Deed of Assignment, dated
1773 between John Wilton and Elizabeth Wilton,
his only daughter and James Maxwell,
her husband of the townland of Monnery.
It also mentions Roger Wilton as the
youngest son of the said John Wilton. It mentions
that John will pay a sum of money to both of them.
It is very interesting in that it proves:-
a)
Another connection between the Wilton and Maxwell families.
b)
John Wilton had only two sons, George and Roger (see 1753 marriage settlement)
and that Roger was the youngest
c)
The signature of Roger Wilton on this document is exactly the same as
the signature of Roger Wilton on the Select Vestry minutes of 1781 in
Kilmore Cathedral. They are obviously the same person and that the entries
in the Parish Records of Kilmore prove that he moved over to the Kilmore
area where his family settled and also where his sons John and George
were married before "Capt" George emigrated to Canada.
