John and Mgt Wilton had 12 children :-3sons and 9 daughters

According to the 1821 census they were listed as the following;-
James, age, 20
Mary,age,19
Fanny,age16
Eliza,age,14
John,age,12
Margaret,age,8
Thomas,age,4
?Jane,age,2
Ann,age,2
In addltion to the above there was a set of twins, Harriet and Sophia and lastly Leah born after 1821.

From Kilmore parish records (** and I stress here that often the ages do not correspond exactly with the age at census, baptismal date and the recorded date of their burial)

James --I have no record of James's baptism from church records and he died on 22/6/1868,age 62**in the townland of Dromora. I do not think he ever married.

Mary --no record of her baptism. Mary was married to John Sheridan
John Sheridan of the parish of Killyshandra and Mary Wilton of the parish of Kilmore. In the presence of John Wilton on the ?8th Jan 1834 .
John Sheridan was a doctor in Killyshandra town. Mary was his second wife, his first wife was Jane Hamilton and he married her in 1821. I presume she died,at least I hope she did as I can find no record of any family.
According to the 1841 census ( the parish of Killyshandra is the only part of this census to have survived 1922):-- John Sheridan age47, M , head of family.surgeon and apothecary
Mary, age? F, wife (I know from the 1821 census that she was 19 then so when she got married she was 32, which is quite old for this period of time)
John, age 6 M, son
Eliza, age 5 F, daughter
William, age 4, M, son
Mary, age 1, F, daughter
Thomas, age 1, M, son
Robert, age 4 months , M, son
Donahoe Thomas ,age 18 , M, servant
Ward Catherine, age 20, F, servant
Ward Anne, age 64, F, dry nurse
Their address was Main Street, Killyshandra As far as I know John (son) second name was Wilton and Robert's 2nd name was Irwin ( this usually indicates another family surname eg John Wilton Sheridan)
Both John and Thomas became doctors. In the medical register of 1888 John Wilton Sheridan is given as having first registered on June 8th 1868 and he practiced in Stowmarket, Suffolk

John Sheridan is buried in the old graveyard of Killyshandra parish church:-
In memory of Dr John Sheridan of this town, died 19th Dec 1850,aged 57years
Also his son Robert,died 11th July 1856,aged 15 years

I have no idea where Mary Sheridan nee Wilton is buried

Fanny :-All I know is that she married a John Moore. Their marriage records states both of the parish of Kilmore
However in Kilmore graveyard I found the following inscription:--
Sacred to the memory of Elizabeth Moore of Crossdowney died 6th Dec 1814 aged 51 years
and John Moore died Feb 8th 1822, aged 67 years
I wonder is this the gravestone of John Moore, the husband of Fanny's, parents

Eliza :- Married "General" Edward King Little in Kilmore cathederal on ?date March 1837. Witnesses were John and Margaret Wilton. She died on 25th May 1891 and she is buried along with her husband, son in law and grandson in the graveyard of Toomna parish church ,Co Leitrim
( see photos and visit the website of Doug Vaugh for more extensive information on this family)

John:-- my g,g,grandfather. At least I presume this is him, If it's not I have been "barking up the wrong tree" for the past few years. The reason I say this, is that on all documents relating to my g,g,grandfather he is called William. I am certain his name was William John

Margaret:--According to Kilmore records Margaret was christened on 7th March 1813 and she married George Vaugh of Ballinaboy, Co Leitrim. in Kilmore on 17/51844. This family has been extensively researched by Doug Vaugh and I do not intend to elaborate much here. One of their children was Wilton Vaugh and he became a very successful business-man. He is buried in the graveyard of Toomna parish church. I have no idea where his parents are buried and I can only speculate that it is somewhere in this graveyard as well.
(see photos for a photograph of Wilton Vaugh)

Thomas :- He was christened in Kilmore on 17th March 1816 and I think he married ?Susan Bennett in Kilmore on 24/7/1837.
The only other entries I can find are:-

Thomas to Thomas and ?Wilton christened on 13th July 1836
A death is recorded as Thomas Wilton of the town of Cavan on 5th April 1874 aged 60 years. His age at death approximately corresponds with his age on the 1821 census.

Jane :- I can find absolutely nothing

Ann :- Ann never married and she lived with her elder brother James in the Flatt. She died aged 70 on 30/12/1891

The twins--Harriett and Sophia. They were christened in Kilmore on 12th June 1823
a) Harriett :- I know nothing
b) Sophia :- I wish to digress a little here in that every geneologist knows that we often encounter difficulties every now and then. My late father was a school teacher and one of his passions was good hand writng. The writing of the minister in Kilmore at this time was bloody awful and I mean awful. My late father would have "killed" him, his writing was so appalling. This entry on the children of John and Margaret took me a few minutes to type, however the deciphering of some of the entries took me months. In the case of Sophia the entry of her marriage I so far have been totally unable to make out despite looking at it over a period of 2 years

Charles Beatty, residence ??L----, ??? parish, diocese of Ardagh married Sophia Wilton on 23/6/1847. Witness father John Wilton who is described as a 50 pound freeholder of this county and ? Frances somebody.

Leah :- baptised on 24th Dec 1826. She married Henry Telfer (?Scottish) on 3rd May 1861 and died 19th March 1894

They had 4 children:-
Henry Colin Telfer, born 8th Aug 1863 in Co Monaghan, Ireland. Married Eliz McCartney, 27th July1885 and died in Winnipeg, Manitoba, 8th July 1922

Leah Telfer, born 3rd Feb. 1866 and died Oct 1933

Colin James Telfer, born 3rd Jan. 1868 and died ?1935 in Winnipeg Manitoba

John Telfer born, !9th Feb 1871 and died in Australia 4th June 1928

Is it any wonder Margaret Wilton(nee Maxwell) died a young woman, age 46 after giving birth to this lot.
