The picture below shows a deed from 1753.

:-- These deeds are to be found in the Registry of Deeds, Henrietta Street ,Dublin and without them my search for the Wiltons would have essentially ground to a halt. They have been a valuable source of information and with their use I can conclusively prove with documented evidence a clear line of descent back to 1708.

The deeds are of many types but commonly found is a marriage settlement. As married woman could not hold any property rights in their own right their common aim was to provide security and as the dowry was granted to trustees rather than the future husband some degree of independence as well. The family of the prospective husband,or the husband himself granted an annuity out of the income of his land to his future wife and any children should he pre-decease them

.Below is a marriage agreement between:--
John Wilton of Corglas who was the father. George his eldest son who was marrying Jane Toate or Teute (I have also seen it as Tuite)
Roger Wilton is mentoned as 2nd son of John
Ann is the wife of John of Corglas
The document is witnessed by Charles Wilton of the townland of Moydristan
It thus follows that the father of Roger Wilton was John
