The picture below shows a deed from 1819
This document is extremely interesting and also very extensive(hence it's
division into several parts) It deals with the granting of Corglas to
5 Wilton brothers by their father Samuel.
The brothers are Thomas,Samuel,William , George
and James
Present day Wilton's in the Kildrumferton area
tell me there were originally 7 brothers. I have found the above 5; The
6th brother was called Charles and the 7th was I think called Roger
In the Kildrumferton parish records are various Wilton deaths and
an entry of 1804 is as follows:--
Roger
Wilton of Corglas ,29/1/1804
Written beside this entry in pencil is the word drowned (pencil
wasn't invented in 1804 so this was added later) It has been passed down
to this day that a Wilton brother drowned in Corglas lake and his other
brothers may have been involved in his drowning. The addition of the word
drowned in the parish records may go some way to confirming this rumour
as true.
The first part of the deed is a copy
of the original marriage deed of 1753 between George Wilton the eldest
son of John and Jane Teute his future wife and it is being referred
to by Samuel snr.as proof that Corglas was inherited by him.The deed
has been drawn up because of the marriages of Thomas and William in 1812
Thomas
received 20 acres and William 40 acres plus
1/2acre of bog. Later on in the document it describes
George as having 17 acres and 1/2acre of bog with James
and his wife Jane as receiving various rentals.
There is no mention of the entitlement of the son Samuel
and I believe he never got married
