The picture below was taken from books of "Survey and Distribution" (unsure of the date of these) George Wilton received a grant of 140 acres in Corglas. On the left hand side of the page are the names of the original Catholic land owners and on the right hand side those who 'inherited' it, (the Protestants)
The top of the page reads County Cavan, Kildrumferton,Crosserlough Parish,Clanmoghan Baronry

On the left are the original catholic owners --in our case James Nugent (Nugent was the family name of the Lord Westmeath. They were of Norman descent, usually catholic and sometimes more loyal to the britsih crown than the english themslves. It was often the case of either being in the wrong place at the wrong time or backing the wrong person at the wrong person at the wrong time)

On the right hand side are the protestants-- in our case originally Sir Francis Peasley and then George Wilton

Through out my research I come across the Wilton's getting a grant of 140 acres eg a lease on Corglas dated1709,140 acres mentioned in "The Acts of Settlement and Explanation"--approx 1660, and 140 acres mentioned in the lists of Grantees of Estates Forfeited in Ireland under King William in1688. It is not that they got more land ,it is a case of hanging on to what they had
