About Me!

Well where should I begin! Perhaps starting with my self-portrait that I took this month May 2001. So many people have been asking why there isn’t a photo of me on the hi2u web site. So as I didn’t have any up to date photos of me I put my camera on kitchen top and used that self timer button then quickly getting in place opposite end of kitchen, and the finished product is above. Not one I made earlier!
I’m a single disabled parent with AD/HD and dyslexia along with physical impairment. I have one son who also has AD/HD. My hobbies are meeting people, travelling, photography and computer stuff.
I have always been a keen disability activist. When I was little my dad would say to me "Andy, the sooner you learn that the world isn’t fair the better off you will be", well that is one lesson I still haven’t managed to learn. I’m always seeking and hoping to find ways of making this world fairer.
This reminds me of something else my dad would say and that is, "Andy, the fool didn’t know it couldn’t be done so he went ahead and did it", was he talking about me I wonder! I hope so, as I like trying to do things that are impossible, makes life a little more challenging I guess.
I have set-up many projects and steering committees that provide support to disabled people. Set on many committees and planning teams with local authorities agencies. Along with working hard supporting voluntary sector groups both local and national. Sometimes my name has been put down to sit on a committee without my knowledge! They tell me later.
At present I’m not involved with much committee work and see myself as a "freelance voluntary worker". Along with setting up this web site to support people with hidden impairments also known as invisible disabilities.
I try hard to support other people and organisations that aren’t directly concerned with disability issues. There is a well known chocolate company that I boycott as I don’t like the way they conduct their business that causes pain to others.
I enjoying attending conferences particularly if they have good workshops. I enjoyed lively debate providing it doesn’t get unpleasant towards members involved.
I was born in England UK however often wished I was born in Scotland UK as I really enjoy visiting Scotland.
Well there’s a few bits and pieces about me and that is all you are getting for now. There maybe other bits around the hi2u site! However for now I have to do some other work!
So I will say, bye bye for now, take care, Andy
