Ye Armyes of Ye Renaissance
In the Yeare of our Lorde Nineteen Eighty, I was but twentye, a mere innocent student, when I was taken aside by a manne in large coate, telling exotic tales - of horsemen with winges on their backs, guns with lions heads, cannons on camels, and Cantonese Katyushkas. Thisse was Mr. Eddie Watson, who bye means of cajolery and supplying small packes of lead figurines, pushed and shoved our small, neophyte band of youthful Johannesburg gamers into his heady world. I demurred, but mye friends all talked me into it, Colin Webster (he of SAWU fame) falling first to these heady offeryngs - hooke, lyne and synker for gaye Prinz Rupert and the Royalist cause. I hadde no choice, I was moste cruellie ensnared., and soon mainlyned on Pyke and Shotte, which nowe appeares as mye French armye mentioned belowe. I managed to kicke the habit, until I hadde my firste taste of DBR, and mye addiction now leaves me with:
The mighty Moghuls, who make any Warhammer army look monochrome in comparison. Rockets, Elephants, Camel-guns, war-waggons, looong jezzail muskets.....this is Romance. They also are used as other Persian style Renaissance armies, and various late Medieval DBR armies like Late Muslim Indian, Persian, Georgian etc
Et Arrez, les aventures pour Les Corps du Vin - le France de Richelieu, D'Artagnan et Le Roi Soleil. Mis, degust et fabrique en propriete! La belle France! La belle epoche! C'est Romantique! C'est Magnifique! C'est Guerre! (And they do a decent morph ECW army too!)
The most Serene Republic of Venice, from Condottiere to Crete's fall. I like it so much I have it in DBR 17th century, and I am also building it in a DBR 16th/DBM 15th century flavour .
