As with every other position at the Abbey
Theatre, ALL of the staff working behind the coffee bar or licensed bar are
volunteers. Many of them had never served customers before they stepped up to
the challenge, but all of them find the task of selling beers, wines, coffees,
cokes and sweets etc to our increasing customer base a fun and rewarding one.
Working a show is far from being hard work, as
the trade comes in three 'chunks' - around 30 to 45 minutes pre-show, up to half
an hour interval rush, and maybe up to an hour after curtain-down. Between that
there's the general husbandry of collecting & washing glasses, a quick wipe
round the tables, and then a chat with the rest of the team or the performers
waiting for their next scene!
