Child Protection Services Information Introduction Although tighter rules and regulations governing the safeguards to be observed whenever children are asked to perform live in public, it has not been widely appreciated by groups and societies exactly how much has changed until very recently. Gone are the days when a simple 'Green Form' will suffice to cover theatre companies and the like when using children on stage. In an effort to clarify just what has changed and to publish the process required by law for all performing groups, the Nuneaton Arts Council met in July with Brenda Finn, Child Employment Officer with the Warwickshire County Council to discuss a way forward and as a result, an open seminar was scheduled for Tuesday October 5th. In addition to this, we will attempt within these pages of our web site to set out the key issues and legislation that any group will need to abide by in order to stay within the law. A minor complication is that whilst we will most certainly be governed on the whole by the WCC interpretation of the legislation, different counties have slightly differing criteria, and it is beholden to the producers of any show to ensure that if they have children from outside Warwickshire, then they must seek advice from and follow any alternate instructions that may be instigated by, for example, Leicestershire, Staffordshire or Coventry. The Child Protection Policy statement on behalf of the NAC can be seen on-line by clicking the link on the menu to your left. Further information and support can be obtained by contacting the Abbey Theatre - cps@abbeytheatre.co.uk or from WCC direct via Brenda Finn |
