Behind the Scenes

Talk to the majority of 'Joe Public' about theatre and he/she will likely see only the facade of the noble art of performance.
Which, in most cases is exactly what the company wants them to see.

But what of the hidden wonders of a stage show?

How many, whether sitting in the front stalls or upper circle, stop and think about the mechanics of a production, either amateur or professional?

For many involved in this business the greater part of the enjoyment comes with the preparation for the event that is a performance. From the actors who rehearse with their director to the often unsung front of house staff, all have their roles to play in making any production succeed.

Intrinsic to any performance of course are the backstage crew. Without a set the players play to a blank wall. Without lights they may play in the dark. Without sound they cannot be heard. Without a Stage Manager these elements may not work together and the curtains may not even open.

Nuneaton Arts Centre is a wholly voluntary enterprise, run entirely by amateurs in, we hope, the most professional style that we can muster. We have our failings, and our limits, but on the whole aim to give our users and the public who come through our doors value for the pound in their pocket. This is particularly true of the technical theatre side of the organisation.

Do YOU have what it takes to be a backstage crew-man (or woman)??

It's not a secret art.

It's not difficult to learn how to operate the equipment.

All you need are willing hands, a keen mind, and patience ....

(The patience comes in handy when you're waiting for the director to finish the twelfth consecutive run-through of a two minute scene before continuing the rehearsal!!!).

If you're interested in any facet of stage-craft, whether you have experience or not, drop an e-mail NOW to the NAC Stage Director
