Technical Guidance
for events/shows at the Abbey Theatre

Every show or event is going to be different. Different performers, different direction, often also different equipment or staging being used.

But what will remain constant is the responsibilities of those involved in the technical work and other behind the scenes jobs which make each individual event a success.

The responsibility for engaging technical staff for your event lies with the hirer. The NAC can, and will, where possible, endeavour to assist with finding a suitable team who will work with you to make sure your show goes off without any major hitch, but at the end of the day, we are a wholly amateur/volunteer run venue, and cannot guarantee that resources will be available at any given time.

Ideally, once technical crew have been engaged, all hirers should then have early and regular contact with them to discuss any technical needs specific to the show, submit any requests for additional equipment and also to make sure that whatever is being planned can be run within the strict safety guidelines we follow at the Abbey.

We are in the process of creating web pages for all of the regular and occasional technical people who may be available. The beginnings of these can be seen here or by clicking the button on the menu to your left.
You do not have to select your crew from this list, but this gives you somewhere to 'shop' if you're having difficulties in that area.

PLEASE NOTE - As volunteers, we do not seek payment for any of the tech crew on our books. However, some user groups have in the past wished to express their gratitude for a job well done. If you decide that you would like to do so, then any arrangements or gifts made to the volunteers are strictly between you and they and form no part of any fiscal transaction with Nuneaton Arts Council or the Abbey Theatre.

Once a crew has been engaged, the hirer must advise the NAC ASAP so that the relevant names can be entered into the schedule, so everyone else can see who is involved in each show. This way, there will be occasions where a common approach to consecutive shows may be useful, and the individuals involved can discuss options in advance.

What I'd like to do then, in these pages, is give some guidance to newcomers (and not-so-newcomers) on what to expect at the Abbey Theatre, and what YOU as a user group need to do and be aware of when you book the Abbey for your show.

Please use the link buttons on the left of this page to take you to some pointers for each discipline involved.

Thanks

Tony Deeming
NAC Chair/Tech Director.
