MORE MARMITE
|
|
|
Promotional jars of Marmite include a picture of Zippy on the label and a mail in offer to obtain a Zippy bean toy wearing a Marmite Love/Hate T-Shirt. To get your Zippy, you need to send £3.75 and a proof of purchase, the closing date is 31 January 2003.
Zippy has made an on
screen comeback advertising Marmite. The ad shows a demanding Zippy being given
a plate of Marmite on toast for breakfast only to zip himself up in disgust. The
advertisers say it proves Zippy is no fan of Marmite, described as the spread
you either love or hate. The puppet said of his part in the commercial, "It's
not fair. There I was looking forward to my return to the big screen, and
Marmite have to go and ruin it. I had no chance of telling the viewers when I am
holding my next book signing." A spokesperson for Bestfoods UK Ltd told us that
they picked Zippy to advertise the brand as, like their Marmite product, Zippy
is a great British institution. The ad will began screening on February 4th 2002
and is one of three to mark the 100th anniversary of Marmite.
The Zippy marmite ad is
included on the DVD 'My Mate Zippy' as a 'hidden' bonus feature. The ad can also
be found on the VHS release. Updated
