Zippy

The following pictures feature Alan's11-year-old son, David who has been Rainbow mad since he was two and shows no sign of changing.David is photographed with most of his Rainbow things (and what a collection!).

David

Alan says "The Zippies and Georges might need some explanation. Particularly the pale Zippy with a large head. He was specially made as a replacement for 'Old Zip' which is the one which has completely white eyes and scruffy fur as a result of an accident in the washing machine."

David

"Alien Zip, as he's been named, didn't look enough like Zippy to be a straightswap so he became an additional Zippy. One of the Georges was bought at a car boot sale with a jumper on. He's 'Warm George'."

David

"Recently David had the most infuriating car boot sale experience when we saw a young boy who had bought a very good condition Zippy and wouldn't sell it to us for £5. He'd only paid 50p!! We're still looking for him and are ready to put the price up."

The last shot shows David during a visit to the exhibition held by Dudley Museum in 1998.

David

Our thanks go to both Alan and David, for providing the above pictures andalso for helping out with a list of their collection.

This great shot was sent to us by Andrew and Phillipa, and was taken in early 1999while on hols in the US. They tell us that after much love and attention over the last ten years, his"flufiness" appears to be somewhat jaded - we think he looks just great!!!

Andrew and Phillipa have sent us some more pics of their globe trotting Zippy. Here in Austria he his at the top of the Giasberg lift in Obergurgl:
