1. Have faith
Have faith in the human mind and body, have faith in yourself!
You can achieve virtually anything that you want to.
Believe that you can achieve your
goals.
Be sure of what you really want, know why you want it, and go for it!
Put all of your energy into achieving your goals,
but take them one step at a time.
It may take a long time, a persistant effort, and continued practice.
Stay focused on your goals and you will achieve them.
2. Material goods: Good for what?
Many of us are motivated by material goods.
Many of us spend a "great deal" of our lives working hard
to buy more and more material goods:
a house, a car, luxury household objects, another car, a better house, ...
But are they really that good for us?
Are they worth all that hard work, all those hours?
Do they interact with you? Do they really give you pleasure?
Do they make you feel good?
Do they continue to make you feel good for months and months, and years and years,
or does the novelty eventually wear off?
If you are happy that material goods are good for you -
having thought about it -
then all well and good.
If not, consider other ways of spending the rewards of your hard work.
Perhaps you would like to go on holiday more frequently, and to have more exotic holidays.
Perhaps you would like to throw more parties, etc, etc...
Do things that are really beneficial to you: the things that make you happiest!
3. Respect
Always respect yourself, care for yourself and love yourself.
Try not to get angry with yourself: we all make mistakes.
Nuture yourself and encourage your own self-development.
4. Take time to relax and enjoy
Take time to enjoy your life, do not let it pass you by,
do not be a cog in a machine with no purpose.
(There is nothing wrong with being a cog in a machine, just make sure it has a purpose.
Ask yourself how it contributes towards the achievement of your goals.)
5. Honour those around you
The happier your friends, relatives and colleagues are, the happier you will be.
Honour those you come into contact with.
Apply these principles to them as well as yourself.
Not only will you be doing them a good turn, you will feel better too.
6. Don't be destructive: Be constructive
What was ever achieved by being destructive?
What goals does it achieve? What happiness does it bring?
Focus your energy on being constructive, in every sense of the word...
This will lead towards the achievement of your goals.
7. Beyond physical pleasures?
Physical pleasures are nice.
But, are they all we can experience, are they all we can be, all we can achieve?
Can we experience and achieve things that no other animal can?
What about developing our state of mind, our knowledge,
our morals, our integrity, honesty, faith, ...?
What hidden rewards lie awaiting for us to discover within our minds?
8. Forget the easy route
Does the easy route, through cheating and stealing, offer the long-term rewards
that you really seek? In the short-term it may seem simpler and quicker, but at what cost?
Does it deliver peace of mind?
Do you feel proud that you have achieved something?
Do you feel fulfilled and worthwhile?
The apparent route of ease conceals dangers and long-term dissapointment.
The optimum route may take a bit longer but its rewards last a lifetime!
9. Honesty: The best policy
Make your thoughts and feelings known: be honest.
Avoid the guilt and difficulties of lying: be honest.
If you want to be assertive: be honest.
10. The grass is always greener?
"The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence":
implying that someone else is always better off than you.
Is this true?
Are there people worse off than you?
Think about people that appear to be better off than you.
Are they really, in every way?
What problems are not solved by wealth and fame?
What problems can wealth and fame create?
