About Adam Bostock

Hello. Like many I have a dream...

... helping people (including myself) to turn the challenges of modern living into exciting opportunities!

I have a keen enthusiasm and vision for the development and application of technology. I want to help people to seize the opportunities presented by new developments in technology and innovation, and to use these opportunities wisely! I also want to make a significant contribution to the quality of life, protection of the environment, and the development of sustainable practices.

So far I've had an interesting (though I guess that depends on what turns you on?) and varied education and career. You can see more details under experience or view the highlights in my light-hearted Claims to Fame section.

Now for the career stuff...

Owner of Acro Logic

In 1996, I specifically set up Acro Logic to focus on the application of IT and innovation to four key areas: transport and the environment; education; business; and the further development of IT itself. I aim to provide high quality consultancy services in information technology and innovation, and to sustain a reputation as a leader of innovation. The quality and professionalism of my work is such that I have even performed work on behalf of the prestigious Langham Hilton hotel in London.

I am a committee member of the Mansfield (Nottinghamshire) based Business Enterprise Club (BEC) and the Editor of its monthly newsletter. I'm also a member of the North Notts TEC and the North Notts Marketing Group (NNMG).

Information Manager at Clarendon College

As Information Manager (1995 - 1996), I was responsible for the development and maintenance of all IT systems. In particular, this role included the following responsibilities:

This led to the introduction of a state-of-the-art data communications network that is able to support the immediate and the future requirements of the "Electronic Campus" (e.g. the use of telematics to deliver: high performance interactive multimedia applications; distance learning; and the collection and dissemination of management information). This gave the corporation significant LAN, MAN and WAN facilities. They consist of: structured cabling; modern telephony and voice mail services; distributed workgroup hubs; ATM ready, fast-switching backbone hubs; fibre optic links and ISDN router technology between sites; and a direct connection to the Internet, including a dedicated file-server for Internet services.

Transport and the Environment, and Advanced Transport Telematics (ATT)

From 1989 to 1995, I provided Castle Rock Consultants with scientific and technological expertise in:

Tasks

The tasks that I was actively involved in included the research, design, demonstration and evaluation of ATT systems. In particular, tasks included:

Projects

During my time here I participated in several European telematics projects, particularly in the DRIVE I and II research and development programmes, and a number of US telematics projects. The projects varied across the whole telematics spectrum, with a focus on road transport applications, such as:

My responsibilities also included the administration of the company's computer facilities and their strategic development.

Analyst Programmer at Chronos Richardson (1985 - 1989)

At Chronos I was responsible for software development, management and commissioning of projects which automated industrial processes. Software was developed on a real-time process control operating system. I developed specialised software for the following applications: plant control; statistical process control; data capture/logging; user interfaces; graphical illustration; alarm reporting; data communications; and database facilities.

Software Engineer at GEC Telecommunications (1984 - 1985)

At GEC I worked on three innovative projects. The first of these was a computer based voice store and forward system. The other two projects involved the development of feature phones incorporating a data communications facility and integral monitor. During this period I gained valuable experience in the C, Pascal and 8088/86 assembler programming languages and the UNIX/IDRIS and ISIS II operating systems. I also became familiar with a range of hardware and software development systems.

Well done, you've got this far! I hope you found this of some interest. Please visit here again or visit my business Web site at: Acro Logic. If you want to contact me you can get my details by clicking just here.
