Similar to e-mail, except your messages are
posted on a regional, national or global 'bulletin board'.
Not only can you post messages there,
but you'll probably get some replies too
- the type of reply depends on whether you've followed the 'rules' or upset anyone.
Many of the messages in newsgroups
spark off discussions
- some are quite lively!
They're an excellent
source of knowledge,
support and free advice!
... though there's also plenty of garbage.
There are well over 10,000 newsgroups
covering virtually every topic imaginable
- and a few that aren't!
As with e-mail, newsgroups may contain text or
any type of computer file or multimedia.
