In an emergency dial
999

Operational Details : When ? :

When are we called upon?

H&D CFR scheme First Responders are called to attend Category A life threatening calls only. These are 999 calls where the Ambulance Service Control Room deems them to fall within certain categories and where medical assistance is needed as quickly as possible.

Such categories include the following symptoms:
 - cardiac arrest
 - unconscious/unresponsive
 - chest pains
 - breathing difficulties
 - fitting/convulsions
 - stroke

Ambulance Control call-takers categorise incidents based on the information provided by the person making the 999 call. Sometimes the initial type of incident can be different to what is actually occurring on scene however as far as is reasonably practicable, Ambulance Control do not send First Responders to any emergencies involving persons under 16 or to major trauma cases or any case which may involve place the First Responder at risk of violence.
Within the area covered by the North East Ambulance Service there are currently 62 First Responder schemes in operation along with an RAF First Responder team based at RAF Boulmer. The schemes cover a mixture of rural and urban locations, shopping centres and retail parks throughout Northumberland and County Durham.
