Miller's Shop was situated at 164 High St, Harriseahead on the corner of
Biddulph Rd and was once owned (for more than 20 years) by Edith and Bill
Miller. They sold the shop in the 80s when Mrs Miller became ill.
The shop was the heart of the local community and many were sad when Mr Miller
sold up.
The shop was like a meeting place for the villagers, Mr & Mrs Miller
would always have time for anybody. At one point they were the only people
in the village that had a phone, so at all hours, day or night they were called
on for the use of it. The shop used to sell the brand Maid Marion (a bit like
Happy Shopper etc) It was like Arkwrights Shop in the T.V programme "Open
all hours" it sold everything and there motto was "If I haven't got it I can
get it for you". When the shop was open it had tin baths hanging outside and
there was a ciggarette vending machine hanging on the outside wall, something
that you would never see today.
